ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT COURTICE NORTH WAS DESIGNATED IN 1998/99 BY THE MNR AS THE LARGEST PROVINCIALLY SIGNIFICANT WETLAND COMPLEX IN GTA.

Does it mean that it will get more protection than before? Our fresh air and clean water depends on wetlands like this one. Everybody should be involved in its protection. What are you doing to help?

Friends of the Farewell is a non-profit group...a grassroots online community that unites residents of Clarington with an interest in environmental issues. All of us at FOF are dedicated to providing you with the most comprehensive, up-to-date information on environmental issues impacting Clarington available. Thanks for joining our community, and if you have any comments or questions or need more information,
please contact us  (click on mailbox below).

This site deals mainly with concerns and problems of COURTICE, Ontario, which is within the municipality of Clarington, about 40 minutes from Toronto. Courtice is located on Lake Ontario, bounded on the west by Oshawa, with Bowmanville to the east, and south of the Oak Ridges Moraine.

To make our surroundings we live in as pleasurable, livable and healthy as possible cannot be accomplished without help and participation of all who live or work in this area, current, new residents, business, schools and the government.
The area covers part of Oshawa/Clarington along Farewell,
Harmony and Black Creeks watershed.

This area is very fragile, therefore it requires
PROTECTION
and YOUR HELP.

YOU CAN TAKE PART IN SHAPING, IMPROVING AND REPAIRING OF THE LAND YOU LIVE IN FOR YOUR BENEFIT... FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY.

AIR, SOIL and WATER quality depend on our actions and
on decisions of our governments. In order to understand what
is happening with our environment we live in, you must first
be aware of and know the area you live in. Unfortunately,
not many people have that awareness. We would like to
help you to know and understand your area, so that you will
be aware of what this land needs. This could ensure your
healthy lives and generate more appreciation for
the land around you. Remember:

WE ONLY GET OUT OF THIS WORLD WHAT WE PUT INTO IT.

On these pages you will find information that could supply you with
basic knowledge of this area just by clicking on the topic.
We need volunteers to expand on these points,
so your input would be appreciated.

See the Map Links page for maps of the area including CLOCA and Regional Sensitivity maps, CLOCA water table and Significant Forest and Wildlife Maps, Courtice wetland and urban boundary maps.
