PURCHASE OF BLACK-FAREWELL WETLAND COMPLEX

I have requested all levels of government to collaborate in purchasing the Provincially Significant Black-Farewell Wetland Complex in Courtice (including the area of extended urban boundary - to mitigate the damage done to this watershed by including Courtice North within the urban boundary without knowledge on its significance). It should be in the interest of all to protect this remainder of once extensive wetland. This system is delicately balanced having physical, hydrological, geochemical and biological interacting components. The survival of this complex, two streams, Oshawa Second Marsh and the people's private well water supply depend on high water table in Courtice North, the sole groundwater recharge for Black and Farewell Creeks that do not originate at the Oak Ridge Moraine.

New WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PLANT in Courtice

Learn more about plans for this plant and concerns raised by residents and by Ontario Hydro on the effects this proposed plant may have on Clarington, Courtice, and the Nuclear Plant. There will be public meetings and information sessions coming up in the near future in Courtice - please plan to attend.

Date/Time/Location will be listed here as soon as available.

For more information, contact Libby at (905) 436-2376

2 meetings have already taken place in Oshawa, even though Courtice will be impacted most. It will affect:

  • all of Courtice
  • Our Waterfront
  • Darlington Generating Nuclear Station water quality intake
  • Tooley Creek Watershed

Durham Region decided for us that this new plant will provide the Region with greater flexibility to accommodate increases in the population target in the Official Plan. This project will need construction of a trunk sewer northerly through Courtice, allowing the development of Courtice, Oshawa and Whitby. It will convey wastewater & sludge storage from these areas.

Think about it. We don't have services needed now; our roads are crumbling away; we are serviced by a part-time Fire Department & staff...and they want to bring more development here.

Water Pollution Plant in Courtice - call Tom Sloley - (905) 668-7721,ext. 5289

or call Libby (905) 436-2376 for Questionnaire to fill out to send to Durham Region.
